kathin at Wat Po Non Than, khonkaen, isaan 06.11.11

The temple is an old one in town and is home to both city and forest monks. The kathin is held on standard time as opposed to forest wats where the meal us offered for 0800. If you are ever in khonkaen, it is worth a visit for the weird scenes around the temple

  1. Wat Po Non Than is one of the most amazing places I have ever visited, more like a surrealist art gallery than a temple. Every wall is covered with scenes from village life (as above)or depictions of the local flora and fauna with in addition scenes that are more reminiscent of Hieronymus Bosch or Salavador Dali. Definitely well worth a visit – and if you have time you can get all sorts of Thai massage in the Centre for Traditional Thai Medicine which is situated in the courtyard (the full massage lasts over 2 hours but costs under £10!)
